Midland, TX March 16th, 2023 – As the saying goes, you only understand someone once you walk in their shoes. Thanks to Space Nation, walking in astronauts’ shoes just became a whole lot more realistic. Space Nation missions are life-changing, hands-on experiences for future astronauts, teams, leaders, and adventure travelers to experience space simulations on earth. These mission simulations will take place right here, with the Midland Air & Space Port being the launchpad that takes mission crewmembers into otherworldly locations around West Texas. The first astronaut-led pilot mission is planned to start on April 28th, 2023.
Space Nation, a space exploration training company, is the first space travel company to become a member of the UNWTO and also is an official partner of NASA. Space Nation has organized astronaut-led expeditions in Iceland at the training grounds of Neil Armstrong, and in 2018 launched a global astronaut training app that over 50,000 people used for training their physical, mental, and social abilities. Kepler Aerospace is developing highly efficient and economically viable satellite delivery systems and other advanced energy and propulsion technologies.
Before the first mission in West Texas takes off, Space Nation has partnered up with Midland-headquartered Kepler Aerospace to bring the benefits of space exploration to everyone with a rekindled sense of adventure. From world-changing technologies to life-changing experiences, Space Nation and Kepler Aerospace are announcing a strategic partnership to advance space exploration training and research.
Under this new partnership, Kepler Aerospace will provide classroom facilities for Space Nation’s training for simulated space missions and Space Nation will showcase Kepler’s innovative research and development work. Kepler Aerospace will also contribute the use of their world-class High-Altitude Chamber Complex (HACC) for enhanced human experiences, while Space Nation will build astronaut-led missions and other experiences around the Kepler HACC. Other collaboration venues will be revealed later in 2023.
“This partnership is not your typical one, but it makes perfect sense for us,” said Kalle Vähä-Jaakkola, Captain & co-founder of Space Nation. Brent Nelson, CEO of Kepler Aerospace, added: “We have been focused on developing advanced energy and propulsion technologies that can be used in space. This partnership with Space Nation will allow us to showcase and test our technologies uniquely and engagingly.”
Kepler Aerospace is located at the Midland Air and Space Port. Space Nation is one of the newest additions to the growing local space ecosystem, which is situated in the heart of West Texas, a global center of “gravity” for human spaceflight. As a hub for nine surrounding spaceports, with the likes of Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic launch sites to the West and NASA and SpaceX to the Southeast, Midland is perfectly situated as a center of activity. West Texas has played a key role throughout history, being the location where the astronaut training during the Apollo missions took place and will continue to be a test bed for our future missions to the Moon and Beyond.
This partnership is a testament to the continued growth of the Midland Air and Space Port, and its unique positioning as a hub of innovation and advancement in space exploration. By working together, Space Nation and Kepler Aerospace are poised to create new opportunities and experiences for those looking to explore the wonders of space.
Space Nation is excited to start its simulated space missions in Midland and West Texas, not just because of its centric hub-like location for the future of human spaceflight and exploration but because of its deeply engrained history of pioneering spirit and the rich skillset of the oil and gas industry. As we plan to drill water ice on the Moon to produce rocket fuel and extract minerals to build equipment, habitats, and spaceships, the skills and experience refined through generations in the oil and gas industry are at the center of our expansion to the solar system.
Captain & Co-Founder Kalle Vähä-Jaakkola sums it up: “Midland connects the resourcefulness of pioneers, the boldness of wildcatters, and the ingenuity of the oil and gas industry in a unique way. These skills and attitudes built the modern world and will build our future cities and industries in space. As Midland once was the pathway to the western expansion of the United States, it will now be the pathway to humanity’s expansion to space, making Midland one of a kind place on Earth.”
SPACE NATION INC. is a space exploration training company that offers otherworldly missions for future astronauts, teams, leaders, and adventure travelers to share the world-changing benefits of space with everyone. Space Nation was the first space travel company to become a member of the UNWTO and is an official partner of NASA; it organized astronaut-led expeditions in Iceland at the training grounds of Neil Armstrong and, in 2018, launched a global astronaut training app that over 50,000 people used for training their physical, mental, and social abilities. Space Nation’s greater mission is to establish communities beyond Earth and human-lead industrial operations across the solar system, and to connect people on Earth to that future by sharing the life-changing benefits of space with everyone. Space Nation sees Midland in the center of this future. Space Nation is currently located in Colorado, USA.
